PHILLIPS COUNTY'S LIBERIA EXPERIMENT

SOME FORGOTTEN PHILLIPS COUNTY HISTORY

During the 1880s the west African country of Liberia loomed as a shiny bobble for the county's former slaves.  Remember, they suffered as free, but still slaves, to the Jim Crow sharecropper system. Some found Liberia not so shiny and returned to the U.S. Would it not be interesting to know who are people in Liberia now who are descendents of Phillips County African Americans?
